This morning as I logged into my yahoo mail, where the news pops up, they had this article.
http://shine.yahoo.com/channel/parenting/worst-fathers-day-gifts-ever-1745038/?pg=2#photoViewer=1
Its about the 12 WORST gifts for Father's Day, and it has consumerism all over it. Not only does it say the #1 Dad shirts are out, but also home made gifts, coupons, and most everything else except of course "cool gadgets". They even outlawed cologne which is Matt's MOST favorite gift. Forget the "mow the lawn" coupon now we have to get the newest itouch to be good kids????
Shouldn't we get to know our Dads better, take some time to think of things THEY would like? The dads I know would LOVE baked goods, hand prints of (great) grand kids, etc. And you know hubby really enjoys Homer Simpson and would think I got him that gift because I know he likes it, not because I think he is a Homer dad (DUH). While I agree on getting Dad something, and if you can afford the cool gadget that YOUR dad wants then get it! But there is no reason a home made or silly gift can not be given if it is given to the dad who will enjoy it or made by little ones with love in their hearts. Breakfast in bed is much more about love then the power drill and celebrating that love is what Dad's Day is all about!
BOO to all who try to sell that money=love and nothing but the most expensive, newest gadget will let our Dads know they are appriciated!!
