Ok, so lately I have been suffering from insomnia. Not so much that once in bed I don't sleep (usually by the time my head hits the pillow I have less then five min before I am unconscious till DD wakes up) but that I can not get myself to bed. It started after a trip to Joannes for Father's Day makings (Brittney and I made Matt the neatest Navy fleece tied blanket with matching pillows). I layed awake the next night for hours thinking of all sorts of things to make and coveting a sewing machine (and the space to use it). The next day I decided I would try out the sew glue I bought spontaneously at the store and make a lizard beanie. I made my own pattern and even thought I left the extra room needed. Then the troubles began. The top fabric I had pulled out of the scraps bin was too slippery to cut so I decided I would pin it as much as I could (with needles because I cant find the pins I know I have somewhere) and cut then sew in bits, gluing as I went of course. The whip stitch (I think that's what it is called) is about the most I can do so that's what I did. But pretty soon I realised I was whipping past the glue some times with no way to go back and glue. As I had started this project after the kids went to bed it was by now very late (because of all the cutting/pinning/oops wrong way RE-pinning etc) so I decided I would glue it and then stitch it and finally retired in the early morning. The next day was Rachel's Dance recital (oh ya and I had to bake 2 cakes to finish her birthday cake) which involved curled hair, showers all around, and makeup galore on my three year old as well as an hour public transit ride. Didn't get home till almost midnight. BUT I brought my lizard for the ride out there. Upon trying to turn it back right-side-out I discovered I had NOT left enough sew room as there was barely enough room to get it turned, well I had to get creative with the use of an allen wrench to finish the turning. AND that I had holes in my glue. I also discovered that the hole I had left for the turning was too small so decided just to cut it open (and when resewing it I did not notice the cut had the bottom fabric so lined it up all wrong and had a seam in the wrong place). I fixed the holes where I had missed gluing by just whip stitching on the OUTSIDE all the way around. It actually didn't look half bad. Several days and late nights later my lizardish thing was done and (over) stuffed with lentils (he went off to Eric's where I knew his long tail and too twisted floppy limbs would be appreciated and his extra stitches and folds ignored). Now you would think I could sleep, but no, because while looking for paper hats for Rachel's party I came across an AWESOME website with paper crafts. I will link the site but WARNING you may be so drawn into it as to loose all sense of control or reason and it may cause you to forget what a bed or sleep is.

It was the Sun that caught my eye first. Having a son who loves the Solar System I decided I had to have that sun. There went another night. It was well after 2am before I finished my gluing and covered in bits of paper and glue peelings I rolled off to bed. Though, that sun is SO COOL!! Too bad Matthew has to wait till my attachment to it goes down enough I can handle him doing more then just looking at it. LOL. Want to do the lunar globe and am halfway through the spiral butterfly ceiling decoration (for above my bed).
I have other ideas in the works too. I want to make more beanies (Matthew really wants one and tried to claim Eric's for himself) and while at a rummage sale picked up bright green cloth napkins (7 for .35) and a pillowcase that looks like scales (.50) but I will be simplifying my pattern and watching where I cut. Maybe trying a frog or turtle as well.
I like doing stuff and the sitting projects that involve little movement and can be done fairly easy are working best for me. Plus finishing it is a big reward. Someday when I have a machine I think I will turn the little creatures out for sale.
Looks like sleep and I are going to be battling it out for a while yet. I AM trying to be more responsible......oh look at the time.....sigh. Well I did say trying...
